South Carolina Economic Developer's School (SCEDS)

The South Carolina Economic Developer's School is a unique partnership of the Governor's Office, the SC Department of Commerce, the SC Economic Developers' Association, and the University of Charleston. The purpose of SCEDS is to educate those who support the economic development professionals in their communities. These supporters come from a wide variety of organizations including city and county councils, school boards, utility companies, local government, banks and others. Practitioners and academicians make up the faculty. They focus on the knowledge and tools that will help South Carolina compete in today's tough economic development environment.

SCEDS consists of four sessions each year which cover different aspects of economic development. Graduates receive a certificate for attending all four sessions. SCEDS is funded by registration fees and sponsorships. The sponsorships help keep the registration fees affordable. For registration information contact The Tate Center for Entrepreneurship, College of Charleston, 843-953-6596.

South Carolina Certified Economic Developer (SCCED)

This week long course is available for professional economic developers with a minimum of 3 years of full time economic development experience and who have attended other economic development training courses. It is intense, but will provide you with new and improved tools in your professional bag of tricks.

Graduates of the program earn the "SC Certified Economic Developer" certification.  After initial certification, members must recertify every two years in order to maintain their status.

Listen to what some of your peers are saying about this program:

“In all of my years of attending professional economic development programs, this was the most effective, targeted program that I have ever experienced.” Bill Workman

This was a long, hard week, but I learned a lot of stuff that I can put into action immediately. Thanks for a great program.” Stephen Roddey

“It was tough setting aside all of the urgent matters in Orangeburg County for a whole week in order to attend this program. But, I am glad I did. It was well worth it.” Hal Johnson

The program is sponsored by the South Carolina Economic Developers’ Association; The South Carolina Department of Commerce; and the Tate Center at the College of Charleston.
