Managing Director, Germany Office

This dynamic, cabinet-level agency is responsible for recruiting major international companies to the state of South Carolina. More than 1,200 operations of international firms call South Carolina home. Majority-owned, foreign-affiliated companies employ more than 131,900 South Carolinians - 7% of the state's private industry employment. Some of the major firms that have a major presence in South Carolina include BMW, Volvo, Bosch, Boeing, Michelin and Samsung.
The minimum requirements for the position: A bachelor's degree and management experience in promoting economic development efforts. Prefer a masters degree in business, marketing, finance and with five years experience in a business-related field. Must have proven leadership skills. Prefer the ability to speak German fluently.
The responsibilities of the position include but not limited to: overall management and oversight of Munich staff and the office itself; staff development to ensure their individual goals are met; work directly with HR in the U.S. to maintain consistent compliant measures; financial oversight and accountability to include contracts and leases, and knowledge of CRM; developing strong relationships with first-tier, European HQs of companies that are established in South Carolina.
The position will be based in Munich, Germany. Munich – roughly 1.5 million inhabitants and Germany’s third biggest city – has the highest quality of life of all major cities in Germany. Green spaces and parks, with its proximity to the Alps are some of the factors that make Munich such a unique place to live.

The Operations Manager Performs detailed, professional level assignments for the Don Ryan Center for Innovation involving implementation, monitoring and continued improvement of programs and new enterprises. Performance success requires project management, administrative duties, online research, social media postings, membership program administration, basic grant writing, note taking, public and private meeting setup and logistics, volunteer coordination, working with a wide variety of vendors and juggling multiple disparate tasks that are all at varying stages of completion, while working within the confines of Town policies and procedures. Responsibilities are very diverse and will include direct and indirect interactions with regional and local elected officials, members of the board, community stakeholders, and Town administration. Responsible for various assigned projects while acting in a support function to the DRCI CEO.
Must have a minimum of five-year’s work experience directly connected to operating/managing a business enterprise. In addition, excellent writing skills, communication skills, and a positive attitude are a must. An in-depth understanding of the social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and similar sites are critical.
A Bachelor’s Degree preferred or history of at least 5 years’ of similar work experience in the areas of marketing, journalism, political science, business administration, real estate development or public administration.
